Nazareth to Participate in Love Cedar Valley 2008
Love Cedar Valley is an outreach mission of area churches. Its vision is to promote unity among the churches as they work together toward a common task: touching people’s lives through servant evangelism.
On Saturday, May 3, Love Cedar Valley will sponsor a "kindness explosion" as church members extend the love of Christ to our neighbors in the Cedar Valley through simple acts of kindness. Nazareth members who would like to participate in Love Cedar Valley are invited to register at the sign up table in Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings (March 30-April 27).
For more information about the Love Cedar Valley project, visit their website at www.lovecedarvalley.com

Prayer Requests from Our Missionaries
Shannon and Lisa Sandquist
Shannon and Lisa Sandquist, our newest Nazaraeth-supported missionaries, are originally from Iowa, where they met at Luther College and married during their senior year. The couple has four children: Emily (17), Erik (15), Naomi (13) and Natalie (9). The Sandquists most recently lived in Janesville and ministered to college students at UNI through Navigators. They also partnered with Nazareth staff on BASIC, a UNI campus ministry. Because of their heart for missions, they felt a call for someone to lead a university mission in Singapore. Since November 2007, they have been transitioning into the leadership of the Navigator ministry at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Shannon and Lisa request prayers for the following concerns:
• For continued adjustment to cultural changes
• For wisdom and direction in reaching students for Jesus at Nanyang Technological University
• For guidance in choosing a local church where the family can worship
• For the health of the family members - each has been dealing with a persistent cough
Jim and Marissa Stamberg
Jim and Marissa Stamberg are about to embark on missionary work in western Alaska in the village of Naknek. The Stambergs request unity and grace for their family as they work on the logistics of getting their car (in Michigan) and their household belongings (in Tennessee) to Seattle to be put on a boat and sent to Alaska. They also request prayers for unity and like-mindedness among the believers in the village (Naknek) and region (Bristol Bay) where they will be living.
The Mikaelsens
Paul and Jay Mikaelsen are busy constructing the new building for Radio/Television Caranavi in Bolivia. The stations provide Christian programming to the people of South America. Please keep the Mikaelsens and the people of Bolivia in your prayers.
The Fribergs
Missionaries Dr. Steve and Bethany Friberg in Ketumbeine (Kit um bain ee), Tanzania, request the following prayers:
• As all costs increase, pray that the medical clinics find a way to be more sustainable.
• Pray for the 140 people with HIV on antiretroviral treatment at Mto wa Mbu, that they may overcome obstacles.
• Pray for clinic staff working in remote areas with tough conditions.
• Pray for homeschooling and continued good development of the three Friberg children. Nyika and Zaka are in 5th grade and Shalai is 4 years old.
• Pray for markets for beadwork made by women in Ketumbeine.
The Coxes
Our ELCA missionaries, Doug and Monica cox and their sons, Ben and Jeremiah, have returned to Madagascar after home leave and are living in the capital city, Antanarivo. Doug teaches leaders and pastors of the Lutheran Church of Madagascar how to effectively reach out to Muslim friends and neighbors. Monica guides a women's organization that provides the women with additional income by making and selling crafts. Remember the Cox family in prayer, asking that God will use them to further the Kingdom and keep them well and safe.
Maren Nielsen
Maren Nielsen (daughter of Elva Nielsen and sister to Kurt and Lynn) is a Nazareth-supported missionary working with World Impact, whose mission is planting churches among the urban poor.
Maren requests the following prayers: 1) for a four-wheel drive vehicle to cover the mountainous terrain in Bailey, Colorado; 2) for guidance and leading in reorganizing the ministry.
You don't have to journey half way around the world to make a difference in the world. God doesn't call everyone to serve in far-away places, but He does call every one of us to serve.
Nazareth offers many opportunities for you to serve others. Some of these ways are humble and very simple: giving a bar of soap, contributing a yard of fabric, buying a bag of coffee. But this is how the world is changed: one gift of love at a time. The world is waiting for your gift.
Purchasing Fair Trade Coffee Helps Small Farmers
When you purchase a bag of Lutheran World Relief fair-trade coffee, you're doing much more than just buying a delicious beverage. You're contributing to world justice. The Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project ensures that coffee farmers receive a fair price that covers their cost of production and guarantees them a living wage for their labor. To purchase fair-trade coffee, stop by the Coffee Shop in the Family Life Center on Sundays or visit the church office during the week.
Fair Trade Tea, Cocoa, & Chocolate Bars Now Available for Purchase
You already know you can make a difference in the world every time you buy a bag of fair trade coffee. Now you can help improve the lives of third world farmers in another way. How? By purchasing fair trade tea, hot cocoa, and chocolate bars. The Lutheran World Relief Fair Trade Project ensures that small farmers receive a fair price that covers their cost of production and guarantees them a living wage for their labor. To learn more about the LWR Fair Trade Project, pick up a brochure in the Coffee Shop. To purchase fair-trade items, stop by the Coffee Shop in the Family Life Center today or visit Membership Secretary Deb Rhoades in the church office during the week.
